Question by ╔Elizabeth╗ ♪♫: How do people with sleeve tattoos keep or get jobs?
I just got my first tat the other night and I’m already addicted and thinking of getting a sleeve; over time, of course. I was just wondering what type of careers heavily tattooed people got into without having to hide their tattoos?
Yes, lol, but after awhile it would get annoying having to wear them at work 24/7. At least that would be annoying for me anyway…
My ex husband was in the Marines, haha, I totally get that Army joke you put in there.

People *say* that its no longer a big deal to have a tattoo, and that you can still be inked up in a professional job. Not so much.
In any conservative professional job, you’re going to need to keep it covered. Plus, you’ll want to keep it a secret from your co-workers, if you want any sort of chance for upper-level jobs. People make a silent judgment regarding people with excessive ink. It just says that you lack discipline and good judgment, to many people.

I have almost a full sleeve on one arm and a forearm piece on the other and it really hasn’t caused me any trouble with jobs. Certain job I will not be able to get because of them, but they were jobs I wouldn’t want even before I got any tattoos. When you need to cover them long sleeved blouses and shirts are great, and lightweight cardigans. It’s not a big deal at all. But if you’re that worried about it, don’t do it. It’s a lifelong commitment.

I wear a long sleeve shirt. I don’t know US laws, but in Canada you can’t legally fire someone for having tattoos, so after about a month of working I’ll wear normal clothes again.

It depends on the type of job they want.
It’s more acceptable in certain jobs than others.
you wouldn’t want a teacher or a doctor to have sleeves, but a chef or maintenance worker had them you wouldn’t care.

It really shouldn’t affect you being able to get a job. Yes wearing long sleeves every day can get boring, but I don’t want a job where I would have to wear a suit and long sleeves all the time. I don’t think I would ever be comfortable behind a desk all day. If they don’t hire you or fire you because you happen to have tattoos that could be seen as discrimination.
At my work place all any one with tattoos has to do is keep any thing that might be seen as offencive covered.
Been working in retail almost 10 years at $9.60 /Hr. Don’t have any tattoos on my arms yet, have one on my wrist most of mine are on my back. I want to get a nick name of mine in an ambigram tattoo.

Honestly, there are a lot of jobs that you can lose out on if you have tattoos that you cannot cover. It sucks yes but people can not hire you for a job just because you have tattoos. Most of them will just put down a bogus reason for it though. I agree, wearing long sleeves would get really annoying. Honestly, if you have a career that you’re set on and you know that you want, then go for that first. Tattoos can come later. You can always talk to your boss and see how they would feel if you had tattoos.
